Why water temperature matters more than the machine
Carbonation is just CO2 dissolving into water, and cold liquid holds dissolved gas far better than warm liquid — the same reason a warm soda goes flat faster than a cold one. Using room-temperature or lukewarm water in a carbonator is the most common reason people think their machine is "weak" when the real issue is starting temperature.
The correct carbonating technique
- Chill the water fully before carbonating. Straight from the fridge, not room temperature — this alone makes the biggest difference in fizz strength.
- Fill the bottle to the marked fill line, not higher. Overfilling leaves no room for the water to react with CO2 and causes overflow when you release pressure.
- Press the carbonating button in short bursts, not one long hold. Short pulses let the gas actually dissolve into the water instead of just bubbling through and escaping.
- Let pressure settle for a few seconds before removing the bottle. Releasing too fast is what causes the foamy overflow when you twist the bottle off.

If your carbonation goes flat quickly after making it, the bottle cap or seal is the usual suspect — always use the machine's dedicated bottle and cap, since generic bottles rarely hold pressure the same way. Storing finished sparkling water in the fridge (not at room temperature) after carbonating also helps it hold its fizz for days instead of hours.
